Welcome to My Blog!!

So I have finally decided to join the world of blogging.  Why?  Because I don't always have a way of sharing with people what is going on in my life or sharing some wonderful things I have learned along the way.  Facebook has been good to connect with people and give general posts.  Here on my blog, I plan to share stories, explain what is going on in my life, share things I have written, pictures, video (hopefully), and many other things.  I am looking forward to many different types of posts here on my blog.

Some people may wonder why I chose to title my blog as "Words of a Watchful Pilgrim".  Well, there is a very good reason for it.  Let me break it down into three parts:  Watchful, Pilgrim, and Words.

Watchful:
During my freshman year at George Fox University, I had to take a literature class as part of my general education requirements.  During this class, I read the classic Christian novel The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan.  I could go into so much depth with this book (and maybe I will in a future blog).  Anyway, in this story there is a man called Watchful standing at the door of the Lord's Castle that the main character, Christian, comes across on his pilgrimage to the Celestial City.  When Christian approaches the Lord's Castle, Watchful calls out to Christian to come find rest at the castle before continuing his journey and gives Christian specific instructions on how to by-pass the lions that are on either side of the pathway to the Lord's Castle.  Ever since reading this story, throughout college, and beyond; one of my nicknames has always been Watchful.  So in a sense, my name is part of my title of this blog.

Pilgrim:
When I was in 2nd grade, I started a wonderful journey as I accepted Jesus Christ into my life a Lord and Savior.  At that time, I had no idea what that journey was going to look like as I was only a small child.  Nonetheless, my journey began and I have been a pilgrim ever since.  However, I am not the only pilgrim in this journey as a Christian.  I have fellow brothers and sisters in Christ that are on their own pilgrimages as we seek to be more and more like Christ.  Just like in the story of The Pilgrim's Progress where Christian met fellow brothers along the way, so too I get to be a part of people's lives for whatever season I get to be a part of it.

Words:
When it comes to words, I do so much better writing them out than I do speaking.  When I write, my thoughts come forth and I have had at times written poems, letters, and several journal entries of what is going on in life.  At one point during college, I even wrote letters to some of my friends that were more like epistles than modern letters.  I didn't want to call my blog an "epistle" because that would limit what I could write about.  However, with "words" I can write and talk about anything I want to.  It leaves me with an open canvas of things to share here on this blog.

So there you have it!  Words of a Watchful Pilgrim.  A blog about myself, what is going on in my life, and the experiences along the way.  I hope that you will continue to come back and enjoy the posts I share.  Until the next post, God bless.
